The Gross Movie Pool: 2010

Megamind Misses The Train; Morning Glory Mourning - Week 2

There's an old rule of thumb. Never name or catchphrase your product with something that's going to come back and be used to mock it later. For example, both Bobby Brown and the Spice Girls named their last albums "Forever." Notice the disconnect between "last" and "forever." Likewise, Disney famously marketed their Judge Dredd movie under the moniker, "Dredd June 30." Sure enough, after the film tanked, Disney did "dread June 30." So, when you name a film Unstoppable, it's a little embarrassing when it's stopped from topping the box-office its first weekend out.

Mega Minds The Box Office; Due Date Delivers Second - Week 1

The last time Brad Pitt loaned his voice to a DreamWorks movie, it was for Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. That film opened to a tide pool of $6 million and still stands as the lowest grossing DreamWorks animated picture of all-time. When The Road To El Dorado and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron have the one-up on you, it's best to just leave that one off your resume.

2010 Holiday Movie Pool Preview

In case if you don't know what's coming out for the 2010 Holiday Season, check below for a detailed list of this year's crop!

2010 Summer Movie Pool Final Report

The 2010 season was one that will always be remembered… Well, at least until next spring and you're like, "Wait, who got me this Charlie St. Cloud DVD for Christmas… Did they not have any coal at the store?"

Sylvester Stallone Makes Eat Pray Love Expendable - Week 15

In one of the more shocking turns of this summer season, Sylvester Stallone waited until he was 64 to have the biggest opening of his career. I think that was one of the items Paul McCartney forgot to include during the writing of When I'm 64.

Inception Makes Way For The Other Guys To Come Out On Top - Week 14

It had to end sometime. Finally, another film was #1 and the box-office and this time it was The Other Guys. The Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg cop-comedy arrested $35.5 million. It was the second best opening for both actors: behind Talladega Nights for Will and behind the Planet of the Apes remake I'm still pretending never actually happened for Mark. That Apes movie was all just a bad dream… Please, someone, anyone, push me into the bath tub so I can wake up!

Dinner For Schmucks Has Reservation Cancelled - Week 13

Remember when I mentioned that animated Steve Carrel seems to do better than live-action Steve Carell? The Office star came back down to Earth with a $23.5 million debut for Dinner For Schmucks. Oddly, this is just about what Date Night opened with in April with $25.2 million. I'm guessing if producers want to make a film that's a lock to open in the $24 million range, they just need to cast Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in a movie called Date Schmucks and they'll be good to go… and then they'll have a 3-Movie DVD pack they can sell in time for Christmas!
