The Gross Movie Pool: Fall 2017

Coco’s Short A Few Marshmallows; Jedi Is Far From Last - Weeks Thanksgiving-Xmas

Finally, Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi opened and the real fireworks could start this holiday season. A galactic $220 million debut put to rest any of the Star Wars Fatigue some may have guessed had been brewing. Yes, it was $20 million less than The Force Awakens start, but almost $70 million ahead of Rogue One. People were obviously super excited about the next adventures of Ray, Poe, and Finn… and to see Mark Hamill speak his first lines in a Star Wars movie since 1983. If only that same magic had worked for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Thor Rules While Daddy and Murder Enjoy Scraps - Week 2

Two new puppies tried to nip at the heels of The Mighty Thor this weekend, yet none were worthy at raising his hammer. Instead, Thor: Ragnarok raised another $57.1 million for a 10-day total of $212.1 million. I’d say by Odin’s beard, but it probably had more to do with Hulk’s cleanly shaven face. It makes you wonder how a guy who’s always so angry finds the time to shave.

Thor Drops the Hammer on Bad Moms - Week 1

I don’t really think A Bad Mom’s Christmas thought it was going to “compete” with Thor: Ragnarok this weekend. It only wanted to be there for those who didn’t want to see Chris Hemsworth with a new haircut. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I know a bad mom or a good mom that wouldn’t want to see Chris Hemsworth no matter what his hair looked like, and the box-office reflected that.

2017 Holiday Movie Pool - Preview

The Oktoberfest tents are closed, the heatwaves are over, and after tonight’s Dodgers game I’m looking for some Egg Nog to spike, so it's time for the 21th Annual Holiday Movie Pool!

2016 Holiday Movie Pool - Final Results

Truth be told, the 2016 Holiday Movie Pool may be one of those Holiday Seasons that’s fairly forgettable. Over 50 movies were released in the past two months and while five of them made more than $200 million, 45 of them didn’t even make it past $100 million. Sure, sure, many of those releases were smaller films hoping more for Oscar Gold than Box-Office Money, but unless you’re 127 Hours you don’t make any movie with James Franco expecting Oscar Gold.
