Narnia Is Another World For The Box-Office - Week 6

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Chicken Little
Walk the Line
Jarhead
After two weeks of DOA films, there finally was a film people wanted to see.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe found more than Deep Magic during it's opening weekend. It found $65.6 million dollars, the second largest December weekend ever behind the $72.6 million from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Look, if I'm gonna bust out the series and individual title for the first flick, I have to do it for the second too. I'm just Mr. Equal Opportunity That Way).

The lesson learned here is that the only things kids like better than reading books, is seeing the movies based on books they're supposed to be reading. Can't say I blame them. I know I'm still holding out for the film version of Cliff's Notes on Tolstoy's War and Peace.

Syrianna opened nationally with $11.7 million for a $13.3 gross since its limited release two weeks ago. This is the type of film that could keep plucking away during the season, yet the way viewers ran away from Jarhead after the opening weekend, it seems like films about the Middle East aren't getting the non-Urbanite filmgoer's blood going this year. Maybe the 40 pounds George Clooney claimed he put on for his roll isn't something anyone really wants to see on the "big" screen.

The Top Five flicks if today was Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observance...

#1. Harry Potter - $244 million
#2. Chicken Little - $127.3 million
#3. Walk The Line - $77 million
#4. Narnia - $65.6 million
#5. Jarhead - $62 million
