Salt Doesn't Have The Pepper To Sneeze Past Inception - Week 12

Toy Story 3
Iron Man 2
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Despicable Me
Shrek Forever After
Though I'm sure most viewer were hoping to see Liev Schreiber in various states of undress and in multiple disguises, they had to settle for Angelina Jolie filling that role in the spy thriller Salt. This easily explains why the film didn't open as large as Wanted's $50 million two years ago, but producers were still happy to settle with the very okay $36 million opening as they all exhaled, "Phew, we're no Knight and Day."

The weekend was absent of another big-budget debut, yet Salt found itself having to compete will the pungent odor of last weekend's leftovers. Inception dropped an incredibly small 32% after such a large opening and was able to dream another $42.7 million. In something that must be a Warner Bros. dream within a dream within a dream, the flick has already made $142.9 million in just 10 days.

To put it in another way, even with The Sorcerer's Apprentice opening two days earlier than Inception, Inception has already made $100 million more than the Mouse House gamble. Looks like Nicolas Cage actually was wearing Old Man Shoes in that film.

Meanwhile, Despicable Me continues to keep bringing the funny. Similarly to Inception, DM had a great hold and fell a mere 29% in its third week for a $162.3 million total. I can see the little yellow minions in the movie having their own show on Nickelodeon by the fall. The Penguins from Madagascar are sooo 00's.

The Top Five If Today Was Labor Day:

#1. Toy Story 3 - $379.4 million
#2. Iron Man 2 - $310.8 million
#3. Eclipse - $279.8 million
#4. Shrek 4 - $234.8 million
#5. Karate Kid - $171.7 million
